About Me
I wish everyone looked at me the way Marble the cat does.
You know those people you knew in high school or college that waited until the last minute to start on a paper, and somehow they still managed to pull off an A, or at the very least, a solid B?
The ones that could obnoxiously pull five well-written paragraphs seemingly out of nowhere in a matter of hours, while you spent days agonizing over every sentence and worked so hard to make sure you'd at least pass?
The ones you just wanted to strangle because the English language just came so effortlessly to them?
Yeah... I'm one of those. Don't hate me.
But you didn't come here to read about how well I did in school (poorly, actually, but more on that later). You want to know what I can do to help you engage your target audience and boost your sales.
Copy persuades your audience and gets them to take action. I worked for nearly four years as the sole in-house copywriter for WinStar World Casino & Resort, a.k.a. The World’s Largest Casino. My whole job was to hone and adhere to a brand voice that is ALL about getting patrons hooked to come back again and again!
My background writing for WinStar should speak for itself, but even before that, I spent years developing these vital skills. I don’t know how many emails I wrote - hundreds, maybe thousands - when I worked in Customer Correspondence for a large electric & gas co-op. And boy, did I do some persuading: to pay their bill (on time!), to upgrade to a more environmentally friendly electric plan, to round up their bill to the nearest dollar in the name of donating some pocket change to our charitable foundation, to understand why being a part of an electric co-op was infinitely better than choosing a company from the retail market… the list goes on. I’ve got years of experience talking to customers, and I know what they want to hear and what gets them interested.
Content entertains your audience and keeps them engaged for the long haul. Remember when I mentioned school? The biggest thing I learned in college is that even though I love theatre, it wasn’t the major for me. Did you know they want you to learn all of it - sets, lighting, costumes, all that jazz? I just wanted to get up onstage and tell stories, and you do NOT want to put sharp objects in my hands. I ended up cutting class to avoid all of that other stuff, so I didn’t graduate my first go-round. (Though I did finally go back a couple of years later to snag an Associate’s degree.) But I’ve spent literally my entire life acting and directing for an award-winning community theatre, so I know how to get people’s attention and hold it.
Design catches your audience’s eye before they ever even read a word. What was I doing in school instead of my homework? When I wasn’t at rehearsal, I spent many hours doodling, drawing, and painting. I came so close to majoring in art instead of theatre. As you know, that didn’t happen. But just when I thought it was time to leave art behind altogether and focus on other pursuits, I got my job at WinStar. Not only did I spend my time there writing copy, but I also I had the joy of training with experienced graphic designers so I could finally use my artistic eye in a business world. Since then, I’ve designed posters, signs, business cards, digital planners, rack cards, social media graphics, and of course, printed props for my beloved local theatre.
Oh, not to mention the times I:
Wrote reviews & content for an entertainment news site.
Studied SEO and digital marketing.
Created & maintained a blog for a web series.
Collaborated on social media campaigns for productions that NOBODY had heard of - and got audiences to show up.
Penned a fan fiction (which you’ll probably never find - it’s not under my real name!) and had readers begging for more.
Okay, so regarding that last bullet, maybe you don’t want me to write… *ahem* steamy scenes for your brand. That’s fine, we can keep it PG. 😉
The point is - I’m the girl you want writing and designing for you.
